Q. is there a liniment or something like that, that can be used on cows. we have a calf, and he is getting better! but he still has swelling in his legs. i want to try liniment if it is safe. would horse liniment work? preferably thermaflex liniment gel for horses?

A. Are you sure he doesn't have Navel/Joint Ill? Navel/Joint Ill will go into the calf's bloodstream and kill him if he's not treated with antibiotics to kill the infection. Usually the umbilical stump is also swollen, but sometimes the only early symptom is swollen joints. If he has Navel/Joint Ill he needs to be seen by a vet to have any chance of survival. Don't use liniment if there's any chance at all that the calf has Navel/Joint Ill.
