Is Absorbine Veterinary Liniment Gel safe for human use?
Q. I recently developed a mild case of tendonitis and a family member suggested I use Absorbine. I was hesitant but saw no warnings forbidding human application so I used it and it worked like a charm. My only concern is if the stuff is safe for humans so I can tell that person to stop using it. I know I won't use it again.

A. I tried to do some research to find out if this product was safe for use by humans and wasn't able to find anything. I would recommend checking with your pharmacy as well to see what they say. You may also need to call a local vet to see if they might be able to give you more information as well.

After how many months does sloan's liniment expires ?
Q. Does any one know after how many months does sloan's liniment expires ? I want to buy multiple 4oz bottles at once from an online store but dont want it go unused coz of its expiration. TIA
Asked by showtime - Sun Nov 15 04:41:10 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Brand Name(s)Vicks Vaporub, Sloan's Liniment, Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Ask your pharmacist, doctor, or health caregiver about the best way to dispose of the used medicine container and any leftover medicine after you have finished your treatment You will also need to throw away old medicine after the expiration date has passed. You would need to look on the bottles to see the expiry date to get the exact answer to your question.

A. I've searched the internet for 10 minutes with no luck. I'm having back pain and had forgotten about the stuff until you mentioned it. Now, I'd like some, too. It used to be available at Walgreen's, but it's not listed on their website. I'm going to keep looking and if I find it, I'll edit this answer. I just didn't want to lose your question in the meantime. Update: I found another answer on y!a which said that it is now Tiger Balm, although I thought that was a product which had been around a long time? Still looking... Further update: I give up! I can't find it anywhere. If you find it, would you mind emailing me? In the meantime, I found this great website which offers quite a few alternatives at very decent prices. I'll… [cont.]

Is there a cow liniment?
Q. is there a liniment or something like that, that can be used on cows. we have a calf, and he is getting better! but he still has swelling in his legs. i want to try liniment if it is safe. would horse liniment work? preferably thermaflex liniment gel for horses?
Asked by katie - Wed Apr 22 16:02:21 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Are you sure he doesn't have Navel/Joint Ill? Navel/Joint Ill will go into the calf's bloodstream and kill him if he's not treated with antibiotics to kill the infection. Usually the umbilical stump is also swollen, but sometimes the only early symptom is swollen joints. If he has Navel/Joint Ill he needs to be seen by a vet to have any chance of survival. Don't use liniment if there's any chance at all that the calf has Navel/Joint Ill.

How do liniments reduce stress and body pain?
Q. There's not a single store in the Chinese District that doesn't sell these liniments that basically contain menthol and give you that hot-cold effect. There's tons of varieties like the ones with ginger, with chili, etc. So do they really work? Or is an Ibuprofen Paracetamol (or aspirin) tablet preferable?
Asked by 3riCa - Fri Oct 2 07:01:49 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, they work, I would think more like essential oils. Essential oils work on the body on sereval different levels. The most obvious is by stimulation the powerful but little understood sense of smell. But fragrance isn't the only way that essential oils work on the body . " 'Aromatherapy' is actually a very badnamee,: says Galina Lisin, a European-trained aromatherapist and president of Herba-Aromaticsa in Hayward, California. "Essential oils have never been used in perfumes. They're medicines. Essential oils are also effective when used topically. "Unlike mineral oils, which just hang around on the skin, essential oils are made up of very small molecules that actually penetrate through the skin into the blood system," says… [cont.]

why liniment do not use in broken skin?
Q. why liniment do not use in broken skin?
Asked by Neel - Wed May 30 13:56:26 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Liniment works either by evaporating and thus cooling the skin or by irritating the skin enough to confuse the brain's pain processing system. In either case, it contains irritants that may be harmful at worst or extremely painful at least if it enters the bloodstream or comes in contact with subcutaneous (below the skin) tissue. Therefore, never apply liniment on broken skin.

Q. My vet told me to get something specifically for bowed tendons and told me that there was a bunch of brands. I've been searching different websites and I can't find anything that is for bows??? Thanks =]
Asked by Jennifer - Mon Jul 21 15:21:23 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Sorry, not familiar with any liniments for bowed tendons and I have not ever heard of that as a recommendation. If it is a new condition, the leg should be iced 3-4X a day for 30 minutes for at least two days with absolute rest. After the first 2 days, ice and moist heat can be alternated for 4-6 days 3-4X a day with the heat being on (make sure it is not too hot and it must be moist heat - not dry) for 90 minutes and the cold packs 30 minutes and ending with cold. After 6 days, moist heat alone can be beneficial to promote healing. As far as topical applications, DMSO can be used to reduce inflammation and it has some antioxidant benefits. DMSO can be used daily 1X per day if the leg is bandaged. If the leg is not covered, you can… [cont.]

How can I heal a suspensory ligament on my horse?
Q. My horse had an injury on her rear left leg, which has led to her front right leg overcompensating for that injured leg. She is ride-able, and the vet said suspensories will heal, but how can I help this process? Should I put sport boots on her before I ride? Using liniment or poultice on her leg? Any cheap medicines I can give her
Asked by Jamie - Sat Aug 8 22:59:29 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, Liniment is very good to use - if you use a gel or clay one they will stick better. Ice is helpful if there is any heat/inflammation. But rest is probably the biggest thing. Hope she gets well soon.

what is liniment for?
Q. i think thats how u spell it. someone told me b4 i just forgot lol
Asked by Indigo Smith - Sat Nov 15 08:05:10 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most act by increasing blood flow to the skin where it is applied. This allows for cooling, since as the blood comes to the body surface, heat is given off to the environment. It also speeds up the process of removal of products of inflammation and metabolic wastes that may accumulate after exercise. By stimulating blood flow, excess tissue fluid is also less likely to accumulate in the area, so the liniment also reduces swelling that may occur after exercise or tissue injury. Some also inhibit pain responses, and make the horse more comfortable.

WHats this worth? DrCox liniment and anticeptic?
Q. I have a FULL bottle of Drcox`s liniment and anticeptic, its an old school medicine for animal cuts from barbwire and such. Its one of the old medicines you imagine a salesman selling from the back of a wagon in old times. All ive been able to find on it that it was made some time in 1890-1910. I found a person selling an empty bottle not sure from what time frame for 30 bucks. I have a full bottle and im wondering what its history is and what its worth now.
Asked by Spencer B - Mon Apr 13 11:29:12 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Considering it was made a century ago, it has probably expired and is now worthless on your sheep. I recommend pouring out the out-of-date contents and selling the bottle for 30 dollars.

Why does my horse's lameness move from one leg to the other?
Q. I have a mare who was limping yesterday afternoon. She was favoring her front left leg, so I put some liniment on it, and this morning she seemed to be better. I went to feed her tonight and she was favoring her front right. Her hooves are kind of hot, but they're all equally hot. She has a normal appetite, and I'm keeping her in her stall. What is wrong with her & how can I fix it? Thanks.
Asked by Yo Hommies - Sat Jan 16 19:00:49 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Laminitis? Navicular? Arthritis? These can all cause a horse to go lame in multiple legs at once, and she may only be showing signs of favoring whichever is more painful at that point in time. If it was my horse, I'd be having the vet out to check her out shortly.

Asked by unknown - Tue Jul 1 14:17:24 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Go to a good horse-supply store. Get some DMSO & apply it as you are told by the owner (ask questions about any stimulation for pain!). Do not wrap unless they tell you. follow directions! If 7-10 days of this doesn't help, find a vet who knows auriculotherapy (ear-acupuncture): they can really help quickly! Rest the horse & talk sweetly: that'll help, too. Good luck! :)
